Who Doesn’t Love A Cover

Welcome back to recordandwhiskey.net, your source for political opinions for randomness.  I guess.  I kind of ran out of things to say a year and a half ago, but I’m back bayby.  For however long I have until the crippling self-doubt, writer’s block, and lack of content kicks in and then it’s RIGHT back on the shelf haha 😊

One thing I’m going to do differently with version 2.0 is to not try to overthink it.  So, expect more randomness and half-baked idea’s that may or probably not be properly fleshed out.  Like the subject of tonight’s post: Songs I Wish Musical Icons Were Able to Cover.  This started out as a legitimate effort to pair artists with songs (and I’ll probably come back to that well) but we ended up here.  I’m sorry/you’re welcome.

Mozart: “Fat Bottomed Girl” Queen.  I could have gone with “Bohemian Rhapsody” but that would have been too easy.

Hank Williams – “Old Town Road” Lil Nass X. This one over all the others actually makes sense.

Buddy Holly – “Only Wanna Be With You” but the Post Malone version of the Hootie and Blowfish version.  I told you this was going to be random.

Ray Charles – The Applebees song.  I’m not going to look up the title you know.  I know it.  Let’s just leave it at that.

Janis Joplin – “Truth Hurts” Lizzo.  The lady that belted out “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose” needs some positive affirmations.

The Doors – “It’s My Party” Lesley Gore*.  There’s just something inviting about a band with a hazy drug filled aura singing from the perspective of a teenage girl’s birthday party gone horribly wrong.

Nirvana – “Ironic” Alanis Morrisette. I’ve read enough books on Kurt Cobain to know he would have gotten a kick out of the lack of irony in the song.

*We’re going to get more into Lesley Gore more at another time.  I had a TIL (Today I Learned for those unfamiliar) a while back where “It’s My Party” was produced by Quincy Jones.

I could keep this going but I’m hungry and I feel the law of diminishing returns setting in.  But as a gift, here’s some covers I like. Some songs might be familiar others not. And some (Alone Again Or) I didn’t realize was a cover until just recently. Also included something for you Grease fans.
